How your company can support The Eve Appeal

I am really looking forward to The Eve Appeal’s Festival of Carols. Last year’s event was simply magical, the choir were magnificent and literally had the voices of angels. The talks were both moving and uplifting and the atmosphere was incredibly positive with so many Eve supporters under one historical and beautiful roof. I can’t wait to be part of this incredible evening once more and look forward to seeing lots of happy faces knowing that we are supporting such a wonderful charity in such special surroundings. — Annabelle Charles from Annabelle Charles Associates.

Please show your support and join The Eve Appeal for this truly magical event. Your support will help the charity to achieve their vision: a future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.

If you have any queries or would like more information about this event or how you/your company could get involved please do not hesitate to contact the Eve Team: email or call 020 7605 0100.

Thank you!

The UK is presently the best market in the world for offshore wind energy due to its favourable combination of wind resources and strong support scheme offshore regime.

  • Installed offshore capacity: 5.4 GW covering 29 projects and 1502 turbines.
  • Projects under construction: 4.5 GW
  • Projects with consent: 11.94 GW

Round 3 will develop across nine zones. The capacity of the leases issued is 32 GW. Together with Round 1 and 2, the addition of Round 3 will mean that over 45 GW of sites are currently being brought forward in the UK.

Maritime CIO Forum, London 4 December

04 December 2018 Members Event

Digital Ship is excited to be back in London with the next in our series of Cyber Resilience Forums on 4 December 2018.

Cyber security is still justifiably very high on our agendas, with increasingly strong and clever threats being proven to disrupt business continuity. Real life examples in the maritime industry, and related sectors, including ports, terminals and the supply chain, clearly demonstrate the impact of cyber attacks and the important of building a clear response plan – as well as making sure that your operations, and team, are robust enough to withstand an attack.

An up-to-date insight into the cyber threat landscape is imperative to protect our business processes and data from attacks, damage or security breaches. Ship operators need to analyse potential risks, explore legal aspects and incorporate cyber resilience into their daily operations in order to organise business operations to reduce vulnerability.    In this era of the connected ship, with developments such as the cloud, IoT, electronic data exchange in the logistic chain, electronic navigation systems, our reliance on technology grows daily, which makes cyber resilience critical. So, how do we embed this into the maritime organisation, and how do we incorporate cyber security into all our systems and operations? If incidents occur, how do we respond and make the necessary contingency or recovery plans? We will also investigate regulations and guidelines to develop a safe, compliant, cyber capability in shipping.

The human factor is often cited as the weakest link. Ship operators need to increase cyber awareness both in the office and on-board. In this Forum, we will discuss ways to mobilise internal commitment, set up training and incorporate cyber awareness into daily procedures.

Building on the great success of the Maritime Cyber Resilience Forums in Rotterdam, Athens, Singapore and Hamburg over the past year, the 3 key sessions during this Digital Ship’s Maritime Cyber Resilience Forum London will contain plenary presentations and panel discussions:

Session 1 - Facing the Cyber Threat: An Overview of Maritime Cyber Challenges and Focus on Building Resilience

What is the current cyber threat landscape?

What are the major cybersecurity risks and threats affecting the industry?

Is cyber the true disruptive innovation in maritime?

Reviewing the cyber threat across other sectors and lessons learnt.

Session 2 - Business Planning and Cyber Preparedness

Balancing cyber resilience with the business case.

Best practices - modern connectivity.

Mitigating risk - Identify, assess, respond.

Safeguarding cyber security in an increasingly automated world.

Session 3 - Training, Awareness and the Human Element

Turning guidance to training for the shipping industry.

How to assess and change an organisations behaviour to respond to the cyber threat.

Mobilising internal commitment on-board and on-shore.

Incorporating cyber awareness into daily operations and procedures.

Book launch - How to succeed as a 'Business Mum'

29 November 2018 Members Event

Launch party for the UK edition of "Business Mum".

The Danish author, Christine Gouchault, mum of four, business consultant and motivational speaker, invites you to the UK launch of "Business Mum", where she'll be joined by Cappy Williamson, mum of one and Head of Public Affairs for Europe, Israel & Australia at WeWork for a heart to heart on what it's really like as a 'Business Mum' - the difficulties and the triumphs, as well as the best advice from Christine's new book, publishing this November.

The book might as well be written to men, who want a balance between running their own business and their family. It’ s good, because it addresses the challenge of being a passionated person, who wants to create their own business and keep a close relationship with their children as well.

It is not unusual that women understate their interest in their children to make sure they are taken seriously as business women. In this book they have got a voice. Thank you for that. ... All in all, a fine and inspiring book, that I would recommend..

Ulla Bechsgaard, Jyllands-Posten (Danish Newspaper)

Don't miss out on this evening, where you can get inspiration and grow you network.

Registration is free, but places are limited, so sign up now to save your place.

Digitalisation is re-shaping the business world and is increasingly important for gaining competitive  edge. Emerging technologies, together with the evolution and development of new platforms, are  unparalleled opportunities within shipping and the related transport and supply chain infrastructure.

If Industry 4.0 is to be truly realised, then shipping must embrace a new approach to the traditional  supply chain. Moving a container involves, on average, 30 different actors and 200+  interactions - delivery of goods has never been more transparent, nor more complex. So, what can  digitalisation do to streamline and integrate shipping with the connected supply chain ecosystem?

Across three key sessions we will discuss how we can identify the real digital opportunity, and related challenges, in front of us and re-define digitalisation in maritime and transport. How can we better  understand the business improvements these innovations represent?

Session 1: The iShipping Revolution - Transforming the supply chain in the digital era

Session 2:The Maritime Satcom Summit - Investigating the evolution of maritime connectivity

Session 3: Planning for Cyber Resilience and Managing Risk - A fresh look at cyber security, safety and risk

Maritime CIO Forum, Bergen

22 November 2018 Members Event

Building on the great success of the Maritime CIO Forums in London, Athens, Singapore, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Shanghai, Marseille, Cyprus, Busan and Hamburg, Digital Ship is excited to return to Bergen to investigate the digital outlook, connectivity developments, the innovation roadmap and the latest opportunities in iShipping

Digitalisation is transforming the maritime world – both as an enabler for smart decision making and by integrating the global supply chain. Smart operations are being used to reduce costs and gain competitive edge. At the same time we recognise that challenges lie ahead. Digital transformation needs strong leadership, an innovative company culture, reliable technology and transparency inside the connected supply chain ecosystem. The Maritime Leader must reshape his role to actively set the agenda for the future of the digital enterprise.

Technology is rapidly changing, new platforms, business models and collaborations evolve, the need to be innovative is imperative. How do we change our company culture, embrace innovation and enhance digital transformation? At the Maritime CIO Forum in Bergen this year we will study trends in technology, investigate the innovation roadmap and discuss best practices with digital frontrunners from both within and outside the shipping industry.

Across three key sessions we will discuss how we can identify the real digital opportunity in front of us and re-define digitalisation in maritime and transport. How can we better understand the business improvements these technologies represent?

Leadership Insight – Enhancing Strategic Client Relationships

15 November 2018 Members Event

Møller Centre, Lecture Theatre, followed by networking and drinks reception.

The Møller Institute team invite you to join Senior Møller Associate Dr Javier Marcos and Partner Kevin Doolan who will be sharing their thoughts on one of the key challenges for senior leaders today – how to prepare your organisation to achieve sustainable profitable growth.

Kevin and Javier’s presentation marks the occasion of Javier’s book launch Implementing Key Account Management – Designing Customer-Centric Processes for Mutual Growth (details here) Kevin will draw on insights from his book Mastering Services Pricing: Designing pricing that works for you and for your clients (details).

Overview

A key challenge for senior leaders in business is how to prepare their organisations to enable the achievement of sustainable profitable growth. Today, many businesses find that a growing proportion of their revenues and profits come from a small number of customers, often strategic customers.

Despite being strategic, or maybe because of this, these customers place increasing demands on their suppliers of products and services. Coupled with this, increasing levels of competition, globalisation and connectedness, are pushing downwards on organisations’ ability to sustain profit margins. This calls for novel responses to pricing and renewed customer management processes.

In this presentation we will look at some of the ways that the most successful businesses embed long term relationships and use the latest pricing techniques to defend and grow their profits.

Focus

We will look at the best ways of developing long-term and profitable client relationships to deliver both customer value and profit in the medium to the long term.

Javier and Kevin will present ideas from their recently published work and will address questions such as:

  • How do I implement customer-centric approaches for mutual growth?
  • What are the frameworks to think strategically about value creation?
  • What are the constraints to the effective implementation of customer management strategies
  • How does pricing “work” – what are the levers?
  • Common pricing mistakes
  • What is pricing best practice now?

Speaker’s books will be available to purchase at a discounted price.

Ørsted encourages UK suppliers to “grasp opportunity” from world’s biggest…

14 November 2018 Members Event
  • World’s biggest offshore wind farm will be built here in UK
  • Supply Chain Event to take place on 14th November at the Magna Science Adventure Centre
  • Ørsted and Tier One suppliers to provide overview on opportunities for UK businesses

Businesses looking to attend should register their place here

Ørsted, the global leader in offshore wind, is holding an event to encourage potential UK suppliers to learn more about how they can benefit from its latest offshore wind farm.

Hornsea Project Two will be located 89km off the Yorkshire Coast and when fully operational in 2022, will become the world’s biggest offshore wind farm, capable of powering well over 1.3 million UK homes throughout its operating life of at least 25 years.

The event will be held at Magna Science Adventure Centre, 5 minutes from M1 Jn 33/34, and both the project team and tier one suppliers, will be on hand to help businesses understand the opportunities the 1.4GW wind farm will bring to the UK.

Duncan Clark, Programme Director for Hornsea Projects One and Two, said: “We’re committed to developing and growing a UK supply chain that can not only support our projects, but export to projects worldwide as the offshore wind industry grows.

“Hornsea Project Two is an unprecedented infrastructure project that will involve hundreds of contractors. As well as the larger and specialised components, like the turbines and the foundations, it of course requires smaller or standardised components and services such as electrical equipment, fasteners and cables.

“This event is not only so UK suppliers are aware of Hornsea Project Two and understand how they can be involved, it’s about linking them up with Tier One suppliers so they can work together to meet the needs of the supply chain at all levels from an early stage.

“We want to make sure that UK companies focus the right capabilities to grasp the business opportunities, brought by this project, and also from the rapid, international growth of the industry. Offshore wind exports could grow five-fold by 2030 and the UK supply chain needs to be ready to leverage and benefit from this clean growth revolution.”

In the past five years alone, Ørsted has placed major contracts with nearly 100 different UK companies to help build and maintain their offshore wind farms. The majority of these contracts have a value of over £1 million and more than 75% of these companies have received multiple contracts. Many more tier two firms have also benefitted by working with these tier 1 suppliers.

Digital Ship Athens Conference - 7 & 8 November 2018

07 November 2018 Members Event

Over the past 12 months, 15 Digital Ship events have taken place around the world - in locations such as Oslo, Copenhagen, Bergen, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Limassol, Tokyo, Singapore, and London. We have covered the full spectrum of innovation and digital transformation in shipping – including what this means from a business perspective, for your operations and, of course, for Seafarers themselves.

We have looked at how autonomous shipping is directing the maritime future; we have discussed how the changing cyber threat landscape is driving planning and decision making; we have learnt what the impact of upcoming regulations and compliance issues may be and how to manage these; we have heard from exciting new entrants and start-ups looking to find a place in our industry world; we have reviewed shipping’s position in the supply chain and how to better collaborate with our partners, and we have delved deeply into what digital disruption really means for our business bottom line.

Coming back to Greece for our 16th Annual Digital Ship Athens Conference & Exhibition, we aim to bring the year’s conversations and discussions together, to look across the board at the "digital ship". Once again, we expect to host over 300 participants, including 140+ shipping companies.

The first day will cover 3 core sessions:

  • Blockchain in Practice - Digitising the global supply chain
  • The Maritime Satcom Summit - What’s next in maritime connectivity and how will this power future developments?
  • iShipping: Harnessing Maritime’s Digital Future- Enabling collaboration, harmonisation and standardisation in our operations

The second day with consist of a special focus on Building Cyber Resilience – including a hackathon designed to address the real issues your companies are facing now and may face in the future.

We will also host Roundtables on all the topics covered throughout the two days - to enable participants, speakers and sponsors to continue their discussions and ask the questions they really need answers to in an informal, interactive setting.

The Vessel Performance Optimisation Forum Copenhagen

31 October 2018 Members Event

How to tactically ensure your fleets' optimum efficiency

VPO is returning to Copenhagen this October 31st and will give the opportunity for shipowners, operators, managers, charter parties and many other industry players to discuss how the real challenges that lie in optimising a vessel’s performance can be met.

Regulation, in particular the 2020 global sulphur cap, is expected to generate higher fuel prices while definitions of low and high sulphur fuel are expected to change as many more complaint fuel blends will be available to meet demand. The relationship between charter parties and owners will require even further communication and agreement to avoid dispute, particularly when it comes to selling and reselling bunkers at fluctuating prices.

Ship design is changing to accommodate for increasing fuel prices. Designers are integrating complex systems to monitor vessel performance and technologies to meet regulatory requirements. The number of LNG-fuelled ships on order is at all all-time high and new designs are being sought to improve the cargo carrying efficiency of designs that utilise alternative fuels such as LNG and methanol.

The human factor is a vital part of operational efficiency but it is often overlooked. More technologies are being installed on ships to meet regulation and improve ship performance, creating additional pressure on ships’ crews to efficiently operate new technology or fuels, sometimes with little training. This forum will present the opportunity to discuss how the industry can ensure the regulatory and technology demands of a future shipping industry can be met.

VPO Copenhagen 2018 will consist of three key sessions to identify and discuss the approaches to better ship efficiency and look at how the relationship between business, regulation, and technology is changing.

Identifying and Implementing Energy Saving Devices

The first session of the day will identify the largest gaps in efficiency and discuss where real savings can be gained. It will look at the technical and financial risks of implementing energy-saving technologies and how the industry overcome these challenges. The session will discuss what tools are available to identify inefficiencies and how we can use these tools to implement an energy efficient culture. It will ask the question “Are shipowners and operators be brave enough to test technologies at sea, or will the tradition of waiting until they are proven continue?

This session will also explore the human element. What will be the role of the crew in operating and maintaining ships that are technologically more advanced and require specific fuel blends?

Maintenance and monitoring for maximum ROI

This session will look at how a ship can be monitored and adjusted to make continuous gains in efficiency. The session will discuss how ships can remain in optimum condition to reduce operating costs, lower maintenance intervals, and gain better ROIs. How can new information and new technologies be used to maintain fuel efficient ships? What will be the role of the crew in operating and maintaining ships that are technologically more advanced and require specific fuel blends?

Identifying opportunities and relationships

This final session of the day will look at the how opportunities for business are changing with increasing regulatory requirements. The EEDI, 2020, the ballast water management convention, the EU MRV, all present opportunities for improving efficiency, but how will this change the relationship between technology companies, shipowners, operators, and charterers? How does regulation present the opportunity to drive and implement an energy efficiency culture?

Maritime CIO Forum in Singapore, 10th October 2018

10 October 2018 Members Event

Digitalisation is re-shaping the business world and is increasingly important for gaining competitive edge. Emerging technologies, together with the evolution and development of new platforms, are providing unparalleled opportunities within shipping and the related transport and supply chain infrastructure.

If Industry 4.0 is to be truly realised, then shipping must embrace a new approach to the traditional supply chain. Moving a container from A to B involves, on average, 30 different actors and 200+ interactions - delivery of goods has never been more transparent, nor more complex. So, what can digitalisation do to streamline and integrate shipping with the connected supply chain ecosystem?

Across three key sessions we will discuss how we can identify the real digital opportunity in front of us and re-define digitalisation in maritime and transport. How can we better understand the business improvements these technologies represent?

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Eric Jan Bakker, VP Asia Pacific, Marlink
  • Jon Key, Director of Strategy, Innovation and Transformation, V.Group
  • Oyvind Stordal, Head of Digital, Wilhelmsen Ship Management
  • Steven Sim, Lead - Group IT Security Centre of Expertise, PSA International

The maritime Satcom Summit

Investigating the evolution of maritime connectivity The ever-growing use of on-board applications and increased data flows in shipping means that reliable data communications and platforms are even more critical. This opening session of the day will look at how evolution in connectivity is changing the maritime and transport landscape by improving operational agility, enhancing efficiency, creating a safer, more secure environment and enabling greater efficiency.

Planning for Cyber Resilience and Managing Risk

A fresh look at cyber security, safety and riskThis expert-led session will look at how the industry is managing increased cyber threats borne out of the growing use of data communications, as well as the rising number of devices and applications on board. We will discuss current business cases and real-world examples and review the guidelines and policies already in place. We will also look at how to identify, quantify and mitigate cyber risk and how to assess the real business risk.Resilience and response will be showcased along-side tactics for testing and planning.

The iShipping Revolution

Transforming the supply chain in the digital era

Increasingly sophisticated technologies, including IoT, blockchain autonomy, AI and VR, and analytics all promise a faster, safer and more connected transport ecosystem, with better and more efficient business outcomes. But these great opportunities mean greater complexities too, so which are the right tools to use in this industrial revolution? What can a digital strategy do for your business and how can you build a business case for digital investment? This session will break down some of these questions and will look at the benefits as well as the pitfalls to watch out for? The Maritime CIO Forum Rotterdam - 26 September 2018

26 September 2018 Members Event

Digitalisation is re-shaping the business world and is increasingly important for competitive edge. Transformational concepts, together with the evolution and development of new platforms, are providing unparalleled opportunities within shipping and the related transport and supply chain infrastructure.

If Industry 4.0 is to be truly realised, then shipping must embrace a new approach to the traditional supply chain. Moving your cargo from A to B involves, on average, 30 different actors and 200+ interactions - delivery of goods has never been more transparent, nor more complex. So, what can digitalisation do to streamline and integrate shipping with the broader supply chain?

At the same time, the industry is reacting to the advent of increased cyber threats borne out of the growing use of cloud and IoT applications, number of devices used and larger ships but fewer crew. We will investigate current business cases, detection systems and policies already in place, and we will discuss collaboration in the industry to establish safe on-board pathways.

Digital Ship's Annual Maritime CIO Forum Rotterdam will investigate how we can harness all these opportunities and will debate which are going to stick and really make a difference.  Through 3 clearly defined plenary sessions, an innovations & ideas Lunch, and informative question and answer panel sessions, we will focus on practical methods and will bring together representatives to discuss the future of digitisation in the industry.

Confirmed speakers include:

Cyber Security in an Unsecure Age

A look at maritime cyber security, safety and risk

This expert lead session will look at how the industry is reacting to the advent of increased cyber threats borne out of the growing use of cloud and IoT applications, number of devices used and larger ships but fewer crew. We will discuss cyber hack prevention, penetration and detection systems, mobilising internal commitment and collaboration in the industry.

The Connectivity Evolution

Redefining Digitalisation in Maritime

Cloud, IoT, big data, remote monitoring…. Digitalisation is moving at a fast pace. Autonomous shipping is not far away. How can we harness all digital developments to make our own businesses smarter, safer and more sustainable? In this session we will investigate key drivers for a successful implementation. What are the most recent developments, how should we use them and what are the benefits and pitfalls? We will look at the best practices and learn from the best.

The iShipping Revolution

Streamlining the supply chain

The rise of digitalisation and advanced technologies such as IoT, blockchain autonomy, AI and VR, promise a faster, safer and more scalable supply chain for all parties and better business outcomes and increased supply chain transparency? But these massive opportunities mean massive complexities too, so which are the right tools to use in this industrial revolution? This session will break down some of these enabling technologies and discuss how they can be used - and what are the benefits and pitfalls to watch out for.

A Special Communal Dining Experience

19 September 2018 Other's Event

The Bear Kitchen is launching its supper club in a characterful space in East London on Aug 22nd and serving supper again on September 6th, 13th, 19th, and 20th. Join them and other food lovers to celebrate the joys of eating well.

Nordic and Asian inspirations

The food is inspired by the best Nordic traditions (pickles, fermentations, smoking), combined with tantalising Asian influences (citrus, herbs, heat). You’ll experience deeply satisfying dishes with layers of flavour, served in a friendly, communal setting. The food will be complemented by a selection of natural wines, craft beers and soft drinks.

Planet-friendly food

The Bear Kitchen supper club brings together people who care about what they eat, and the planet it comes from. The menu is plant-powered, with well-sourced meat or fish as an optional extra with some dishes. It doesn’t matter if you’re vegetarian, vegan, or omnivorous: their nutritious cooking caters for everyone.

Local and seasonal ingredients

Bear Kitchen is based on a simple philosophy: eat like a bear*. Our furry friend has no concept of local, seasonal or natural ingredients, but she munches nothing else. And she’s never heard of a factory farm. She’d feel right at home at The Bear Kitchen supper club. And so, we hope, will you.

See menu and reserve your place here.

*Not literally of course. Catching salmon in your mouth isn’t as easy as bears make it look.

* Note! This event is not a DKUK event, but one we have kindly offered to publish on behalf of our network. DKUK cannot be held liable for anything related to this. Thus any comments, questions or reclamation please contact the organiser directly.

The event is organised by The Bear Kitchen which is a valued member of the DKUK. Visit their member profile for more information.

Putting GDPR into practice – what should you be doing…

19 June 2018 DKUK Event

As businesses put valuable time and effort into planning for compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) ahead of the 25 May, we ask: “Is it all over once the deadline arrives? Done and dusted?”

For many companies, this is actually just the beginning as they may still be some way off compliance and need to make some swift changes to the processes to avoid potentially severe penalties – as well as benefiting from new business practices in data management.

On 19 June, at our joint breakfast briefing with Royds Withy King and cyber security experts, CyNation, we will cover:

  • the commercial and legal considerations around GDPR
  • the IT impacts and critical process changes
  • handling employee data in a GDPR compliant way.

Programme

8.00am – Registration & networking
8.30am – Welcome from The Danish-UK Association followed by presentations
9.30am – Q&A and opportunity for further networking and prize draw

Our breakfast briefing will be an open forum that will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions and share your experiences.

Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir sings in London

04 May 2018 Other's Event

Among some of the oldest European Musical traditions are the Cathedral choirs and their choir schools. The COPENHAGEN ROYAL CHAPEL CHOIR is the only representative of this tradition in Scandinavia.

Founded in 1924 by Mogens Wöldike the choir quickly developed into a full-time institution with the boys receiving their general education alongside a full musical and vocal training in SANKT ANNÆ GYMNASIUM, the Copenhagen Municipal Choir School.

Since 1959 the choir has been resident at Copenhagen Cathedral and as part of its duties performs at state occasions and during royal visits abroad. In fact since Ebbe Munk became director of the choir in 1991 they have undertaken concerts in leading concert halls, cathedrals and festivals all over the world. The Eve appeal was set up to save women’s lives by funding ground-breaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these women-only cancers. The charity has grown and developed in parallel with our core research team, the Department of Women’s Cancer at University College London (UCL), taking place in 31 institutions across 15 countries.

They have played a crucial role in providing seed funding, core infrastructure funding and project funding in addition to campaigning to raise awareness of women-specific cancers and we are proud to support them.

The world-leading research that they fund is ambitious and challenging and their vision is simple: A future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.

An evening with Peder Holk Nielsen – CEO, Novozymes

05 March 2018 Other's Event

On March 5, The Crowd – U.K.’s leading CSR, innovation, and sustainability network – will have Novozymes’ CEO, Peder Holk Nielsen, headlining. Attendance is free.

As noted recently by the New York Times in a front-page feature, the world-leading biotech company, headquartered out of Copenhagen, is wielding the power of the small – enzymes and microbes – to tackle the biggest problems of all – global climate change, ecosystem protection and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Peder has used the SDGs to help shape the company’s long-term targets and purpose of finding biological answers for better lives in a growing world. Among those targets is an ambition to reach six billion people with the company’s biological solutions, deliver ten transformative innovations, catalyse five global partnerships for change, and save 100 million tons of CO2 through use of the company’s products – all by 2020.

Peder will be sharing his experience and knowledge with The Crowd, demonstrating the impact that committed, passionate leadership can have in making business a positive force for good in the world. It is an inspiring story of how the SDGs can help prioritise, energise and focus business, open doors at the highest political levels, attract the right partners and accelerate competitive advantage.

Join The Crowd on March 5, for a thought-provoking evening with Peder in conversation with Axel Threlfall, Editor-at-Large from Reuters. Attendance is free, however, subject to application and approval.

* Note! This event is not a DUCC event, but one we have kindly offered to publish on behalf of our network. DUCC cannot be held liable for anything related to this. Thus any comments, questions or reclamation please contact the organiser directly.

iShipping Copenhagen 2018

27 February 2018 Other's Event

Given the speed of change in the maritime market, it’s no longer enough to look just one year, or even five years, ahead. There is a fundamental shift taking place, with shipping now facing a new landscape, thanks to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where technology is creating even greater resilience in connected spaces, and those companies that want to maintain competitive advantage must find ways to adapt in order to compete. And in times of turbulent change, strategy and differentiation matter.

Demands for increase in efficiency, safety and sustainability can be only achieved through innovation. But what does innovation really mean, and how should the shipping industry truly look to the future? What can maritime learn and harness by “creative swiping” from other sectors, and from new entrants to the market. How can Maritime really make digitalisation part of the business agenda?

Confirmed Speakers include:

  • Anne H. Steffensen, Director-General, Danish Shipping
  • Jenny Braat, Managing Director, Danish Maritime
  • Tom Erling Hansen, VP Sales North Europe, Marlink - Maritime
  • Pia Berglund, Executive Vice-President, Swedish Shipowners’ Association
  • Tiina Tuurnala, Managing Director, Finnish Shipowners' Association
  • Michael Rodey, Senior Innovation Manager, Maersk Group
  • Bjørn Borbye Pedersen, Director e-Navigation, Danish Maritime Authority
  • Michael Card, Deputy Secretary-General, IALA (The International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities)
  • Henrik Hvid Jensen, Growth, Global Trade Digitization, Maersk Line
  • Peter Sand, Chief Shipping Analyst, BIMCO
  • Gregor Ross, Sales & Marketing Director – Europe, Globecomm
  • Håkan Olsson, Vice President, Maritime, Kymeta
  • Assad Khan, Sales Manager, Telenor Satellite
  • Jorgen Strandberg, GM ANC Advanced Technology, Wärtsilä SAM Electronics
  • Christopher Rex, Head of Research, Danish Ship Finance
  • Mikkel Hansen, CEO, Maritime Development Center (MDC)
  • Sue Terpilowski, President, WISTA UK, Chair, CILT Ports, Maritime & Waterways
  • Rear Admiral Nick Lambert, Director, NLA, Former UK National Hydrographer
  • James Fanshawe, Chairman, MASRWG
  • Rob O’Dwyer, Editor, Digital Ship

  • Henrik Ramm-Schmidt, CEO and Founder, Fleetrange Ltd
  • Jarkko Tiesmäki, Integration Architect , Navidium Plc
  • Ishaan Hemnani, Head Bunker Broker, BunkerEx Limited

And many more to be announced

Across two days and four clearly defined sessions, these issues will be addressed at Digital Ship’s iShipping Forum in Copenhagen – where we will delve into the complexities and outlook of Maritime’s digital future.

Session 1: Disruptive Technologies, Sustainable Thinking

  • Market place review, recent developments, and catalysts for change
  • Blockchain: Changing the face of global trade
  • Autonomous shipping and the digital twin: Evolution or revolution?
  • Smart shipping – Addressing Maritime’s fourth wave

Session 2: Aligning Practical Concerns with the Digital Landscape

  • Driving business change and investment
  • Making digitalisation part of the business agenda
  • Standardisation and regulation
  • Building cyber resilience within the business case

Session 3: Building Digital Competence and Measuring Impact

  • Creative swiping from broader industry:
  • Ports and terminals, Supply chain and logistics, Energy, Aviation, Banking and retail
  • Measuring the human impact and managing resistance
  • Translating guidance into training and education

Session 4: The Pioneers’ Showcase – Accelerating Maritime Transformation

Shipping is still one of the most traditional industries, but the speed of change in the maritime sector is providing a real opportunity for new entrants to the market. With even CMA CGM creating their own start-up incubator, it is clear that we need fresh influence to accelerate much needed maritime transformation.

This session will provide a platform for start-ups with demonstrable traction and pitch to join the discussions around Maritime’s digital future. With the opportunity for first-mover advantage, this is the time for new entrants to make themselves known, and demonstrate how they can help the shipping sector harness all that digital innovation has to offer.

DIGITAL SHIP Maritime Cyber Resilience Forum Rotterdam

15 February 2018 Other's Event

Building on the success of the Maritime Cyber Resilience Forums in Rotterdam, Athens and Hamburg in 2017, the Digital Ship Maritime Cyber Resilience Forum Rotterdam 2018 will address the issues that companies need to learn more about to meet the Cyber Challenge head on.

Cyber security is undoubtedly on our agenda with ever-increasing threats being proved able to disrupt our business continuity. Real life examples in the maritime industry, and related sectors including ports, terminals and the supply chain, clearly demonstrate the impact of cyber-attacks.

An up-to-date insight into the cyber-threat landscape is imperative to protect our business processes and data from cyber-attacks, damage or security breaches. Ship operators need to analyse potential risks, explore the legal aspects, and incorporate cyber resilience into their daily operations in order to organise business operations to reduce cyber vulnerability.

The human factor is often regarded the weakest link. Ship operators need to increase cyber awareness both in the office and onboard. In this Forum, we will discuss best practices, including ways to mobilise internal commitment, set up training and incorporate cyber awareness into procedures.

Four focused sessions will cover the following key topics, and more:

  • Session 1: Facing the Cyber Threat: An Overview of Maritime Cyber Challenges and Focus on Building Resilience
  • Session 2: Business Planning and Cyber Preparedness
  • Session 3: New Developments in Maritime Cyber Regulations and Guidelines
  • Session 4: Training, Awareness & the Human Factor

Speakers and Panellists confirmed to participate include:

René de Vries, Harbour Master, Port Cyber Resilience Officer, Port of Rotterdam

Marco van Rijsinge, Company Security Officer, Spliethoff Group

Ken Munro, Security Entrepreneur & Writer, Pen Test Partners

Pete Adsett, IT Manager & Certified Ethical Hacker, MOL LNG

Jack Hatcher, Legal Director & Mariner, Hill Dickinson LLP

Ian MacLean, Partner, Hill Dickinson LLP

Andrew Webster, Partner, JLT Specialty

Matthijs van der Wel, Director Cyber Threat Intelligence & Incident Response, PwC

Prof. Dr Bibi van den Berg, Member, Dutch Cyber Security Council, Professor Cyber Security Governance & Head Research, Cyber Security Governance Institute Security and Global Affairs, Leiden University

Chris Henny, Project Manager, CSO Alliance

Joseph Carson, Chief Security Scientist, Thycotic

Chronis Kapaldis, Academy SNF Fellow, International Security Institute, Chatham House

The event offers many networking opportunities, including a post conference Networking Reception on 15 February.

Mobile marketing: How to reach your customers on Google in…

15 February 2018 Other's Event

Mobile has officially taken over. Since 2009, mobile web browsing has been steadily growing, while the desktop’s share of web traffic has steadily decreased. According to Google, 60 % of searches currently take place on mobiles.

As a result, in 2018 Google will introduce a mobile-first index, changing how they crawl the Internet for pages and documents from a desktop browser view to a mobile browser view. Basically, this means that if you still want customers to be able to find you on Google, you need to start your mobile-first makeover now!

What you get from the seminar

For this seminar, we have invited Leo Kielland from Google to give you an insight into the world of mobile marketing. For the hands-on part Novicell’s Joseph Goodson will advise you on how to embrace the shift in customers' browsing habits and will guide you through the steps to becoming a successful mobile marketer i 2018.

This seminar will teach you about:

  • Mobile figures and statistics: Google brings the latest numbers and trends to the UK market.
  • Mobile videos: The benefits of mobile video content and mobile advertising and which formats work the best
  • Mobile SEO: How to get your mobile web pages right (we will discuss parameters such as core ranking, indexing and leveraging mobile keywords)
  • Mobile ads: How to boost engagement with mobile and video ads, eg. Click-To-Call-campaigns, Mobile pay-per-click ads, Google Shopping ads, banner ads, retargeting ads, display ads. etc.
  • General keys to success: Easy gains and wins, and steps to make sure your customers will find you on Google

Who is this seminar for

This seminar is for anyone who wants to stay abreast of the latest trends in digital and mobile marketing, in particular:

  • Marketing and sales heads who want to ensure their website is working much more effectively in accordance with the new Google indexing
  • Marketing team members who want to maximise their company’s rankings and traffic when potential clients search
  • Anyone responsible for sales and marketing in professional, consultancy and business technology companies, including anyone with marketing responsibilities

As this seminar is popular, we reserve the right to give booking priority to people in this target group.

Who will lead the seminar

The seminar will be presented by Novicell’s Digital Marketing Consultant Joseph Goodson. He has a wide experience in digital marketing, where he has devised digital strategies that include SEO, AdWords, Analytics and social media marketing.

Joseph will be joined by Google’s Leo Kielland, who is travelling all the way down from the HQ in Dublin. Leo works as an Agency Development Manager.

Novicell Seminar - Customer Journeys

15 December 2017 Other's Event

How to improve customer experiences by using customer journey maps

Company success and growth now more than ever hinges around how a company deals with its customers. Customers today make other demands than before. They expect a coherent customer experience - from start to finish.

But how do you investigate and document your customers' journeys and experiences with your brand, service, and products? And how do you use the insights to design customer journeys that hit the spot?

Join this seminar for tips and tricks on how to work with customer journeys, and what you as a company can get from mapping your customers journeys.

What you get from the seminar

Digital Strategy Manager, Heidi Collin, will inspire you to:

  • Map each step your customer’s go through in engaging with your company from initial contact, through purchasing, after sales support, and onto renewal/repurchase
  • Chose the right strategy, steps and focus when mapping your customer's journey
  • Gather data and use this data in creating a good customer experience
  • Detect gaps between the desired customer experience and the one actually received (knowing where the actions need to be focused)

The seminar is very hands-on and gives you specific models and tools you can use to work with customer journeys.

Who is the seminar for?

The seminar is for CMOs, CEM and CRM managers and other marketing professionals who wish to increase the impact of their marketing activities.

* Note! This event is not a DUCC event, but one we have kindly offered to publish on behalf of our network. DUCC cannot be held liable for anything related to this. Thus any comments, questions or reclamation please contact the organiser directly.

Mathys & Squire - Cutting down the food waste-line

13 December 2017 Other's Event

Food production is the biggest industry in the world and now, more than ever, the food technology sector is under immense pressure to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding population, both in population and waistline. Coupled to this need for improved efficiency is the requirement for healthier products that satisfy customer trends and government health policies.

The food industry is responding by providing cleaner and less wasteful processes as well as introducing ‘lite’ products such as sugar-free drinks, fat-free spreads, and low-salt alternatives. However, there is a balance between meeting these goals and achieving acceptable product taste and texture. Where such balance is met, an Intellectual Property (IP) opportunity is often missed.

In this interactive presentation Mathys & Squire and industry experts discuss striking the right balance between taste, sugar, marketing, and product innovation, and the importance of protecting intellectual property in this highly competitive technical field.

This event will be ideal for CEO’s, NPD Managers, Category Managers, CTO’s, and those working in R&D in the food and beverage sector.

Please RSVP to Victoria Archdeacon by 6th December – varchdeacon@mathys-squire.com

Speakers include:
Jamie Methuen, Senior Business Development Manager, Public Health England
Professor Martin Atkins, CEO, Green Lizard Technologies
Philip Banfield, Founder and Managing Director, VentureField
Nimisha Raja, Founder, Nim's Fruit Crisps
James Read, Founder, Giant Peach
Rachel Rowntree, Managing Director, Wide Eyed Owl
Mathys & Squire - Martin MacLean, David Hobson, Dani Kramer, Daniel Ramos, Chris Hamer

* Note! This event is not a DUCC event, but one we have kindly offered to publish on behalf of our network. DUCC cannot be held liable for anything related to this. Thus any comments, questions or reclamation please contact the organiser directly.

Baker McKenzie - Tax and M&A in the Nordics

13 December 2017 Other's Event

The landscape around the structuring of deals is changing rapidly. The introduction of new or revised rules, such as interest restrictions and anti-debt pushdown rules, are creating challenges to the way transactions are financed. The EU has introduced the Anti-Tax Avoidance Directive while the OECD multi-lateral instrument will restrict treaty benefits for many types of investment/holding vehicles and tax authorities are seeking new ways of enforcing GAAR rules and other measures to challenge structures.

Add Brexit to the mix and those with responsibility for M&A, integration and carve-outs are faced with a raft of new issues to tackle.

Join us on Wednesday 13 December at our London offices where Baker McKenzie will be joining forces with Arntzen de Besche from Norway, Bech Bruun from Denmark and Borenius from Finland to share our unique insights and perspectives on this changing transactional landscape.

M&A and Tax experts will take you through the latest developments in the Nordics and the UK, share their thoughts, and facilitate a debate on how tax and M&A professionals should rethink their approach to transactions and international structuring in this changed world and how to prepare for the unexpected.

Topics to be covered include:

M&A trends: M&A specialists will take you through current trends in the UK and Nordics markets.

Pressure points: A look into issues putting pressure on M&A deals, covering tax and more general legal changes.

Brexit - a pressure point of its own: An update of the current status, including views from our Customs, Tax and Employment experts.

The effects of the pressure points: How to deal with the added complexity and the unexpected, to include warranty and indemnity insurance.

We do hope you can join us.

From the producers of Digital Ship comes an exciting new platform for ship operators, owners and managers to meet and discuss how the industry can improve operational efficiency.

Increased pressure on industry to both reduce costs and evaluate performance, has resulted in greater focus on improving the technical and operational efficiency of vessels. Rising bunker fuel costs and environmental concerns have elevated this drive towards efficient fleet optimisation even further. The VPO Copenhagen Forum will focus on a tactical approach to vessel performance – with practical discussion, and an overall holistic approach to ship operations. We will look at the future of integrated whole ship operations, and consider the impact of ship efficiency on ship shore operations.

  • Jakob Buus Petersen, Co-Founder and Director, Vessel Performance Solutions
