Rosenbaum's Rescue, Park Theatre, 31st January 2019, London.

34 of us visited Park Theatre in North London last night to see “Rosenbaum’s Rescue”, the highly successful and critically acclaimed first play by Danish/UK playwright Alexander Bodin Saphir. The show has now totally sold out so we were pleased that seats were secured early on.

The play turned out to be brilliantly funny and very thought provoking.  The story centres around the historical fact and near miracle that the Danes helped 7.000 Danish Jews escape Nazi occupied Denmark to Sweden by fishing boats in 1943. To this day it is still being debated how this mass exodus was possible. Alexander Bodin Saphir’ play explores this subject intelligently and tells the story as it was experienced by 2 families, whose lives were forever impacted by the events.

The level of acting was outstanding, despite the unfortunate fact that the plays director Kay Fahy had to step in covering for an actor that had gone down with a flu earlier in the day. We were all spellbound by the drama as it unfolded on stage and impressed by the cast and Kay, who despite the short notice kept her own throughout the performance.

After the show we gathered in the theatre bar for a glass of wine and an inspiring  Q & A session hosted by Alexander, the talented playwright  and the well-known Danish actor Thomas Levin. Thomas is a household name in Denmark due to his performance in the acclaimed TV shows Borgen and  Norskov. It was a lively and engaged dialogue covering some of the play’s main themes: history, faith, science, family background, acting and storytelling.
