In this webinar, ‘A practical guide to IP fundamentals’, we will explore the different types of IP, including how to protect the value in your brands, confidentiality, NDAs and ownership, as well as how patents and registered designs are used in practice. Our presenters will use case studies, including Samsung Galaxy Tab, Trunki and Blue squash ball, to illustrate the importance of IP to a business.

This session will be presented by DKUK member company Mathys & Squire UK & European patent attorney Sam Giles and UK Chartered & European trade mark and design attorney Harry Rowe, who both have extensive experience of working with a range of clients from around the world, from entrepreneurs, SMEs to multinationals, in relation to their patent, trade mark and wider IP matters.

Harry Rowe

UK Chartered & European trade mark and design attorney

Harry is a UK Chartered & European trade mark and design attorney, his main areas of practice are trade mark clearance, prosecution, contentious and post-registration matters, as well as portfolio management. Harry has extensive experience working with a range of clients, from SMEs to multinationals, in relation to trade mark and wider IP matters around the world. 

Harry has gained experience in global law firms advising on filing and prosecution of trade marks, post-registration matters and third-party conflicts, as well as copyright, design protection, domain names and domain name disputes. He also provides pre-filing advice which includes brand clearance searches and guidance on the adoption of new brands.

Sam Giles

UK and European patent attorney

Sam has experience drafting and prosecuting patents internationally including the UK, Europe and US. He also has experience of oppositions at the EPO, and responding to requests for validity opinions at the UKIPO. Sam works with a range of clients from entrepreneurs, SMEs to large corporates and has particular experience in the field of medical device technology and works on a number of computer software cases.
