Event description:

To mark International Women’s Day 2023, we are bringing together a panel of highly experienced professionals from the hospitality sector who have achieved personal and professional success through their leadership, innovation and determination.

The talent shortage in the hospitality sector is underlining the importance of attracting diverse talented individuals. In this panel discussion we will focus on the value of female leadership and how to increase diversity and inclusion across the hospitality industry.

Join us at Sticks n Sushi for a lively panel discussion exploring the current status of equity in hospitality and how to accelerate it. 

This event is about connecting with others, finding your power in business and hopefully will leave you feeling, inspired.

Rie Lorentzen

Rie joined Ole & Steen in October 2021 as Head of Food. Heading up food development for the UK, US and Danish markets working closely with the innovations team in Denmark. She has previously worked with Wagamama as openings chef opening more than 15 restaurants and worked with Whitbread as Development Chef across all brands. 

Rie has also worked as Executive chef with Bill’s being part of the team rolling out the new version as well as the dark kitchen startup Kbox doing brand and concept development for the host kitchens.

Maria Cuenca

Maria Cuenca is the Head of Finance at Sticks’n’Sushi.

Maria joined the group in 2020 with over 12 years’ experience working in the Banking and Hospitality industry, both in the UK and Internationally, building and improving teams, financial performance and influencing change.

Prior to joining Sticks’n’Sushi, Maria worked in renowned hospitality businesses, including The Tate Modern, The Ritz Hotel and Gaucho restaurants. Maria has continued to develop a deep understanding of the sector, implementing her Masters Degree in Business and Administration, earned in Madrid – Spain in 2008.

A dual citizen of Spain and the UK, Maria’s international perspective gives her thorough appreciation of diversity in all its forms. She is committed to building an inclusive workforce that reflects the current economic and social challenges.

Michael Tingsager

Michael have been living and breathing the hospitality and restaurant industry from the day he was born, started working in his mum and dad’s small restaurant businesses in Southern Denmark from an early age. He spent six years building a 20+ unit cafe chain in Denmark; +11 years working for McDonald’s Denmark and UK in senior positions, and more than 8 years as a consultant working with hospitality brands across Europe.

Michael is the Co-founder of The Pulse Kitchen in London, which is a catering business delivering planet-friendly food into offices across London. He also runs a management consulting business which produce and host The Hospitality Maverick Podcast, which all about inspiring leaders to build businesses from the inside out – businesses employees and customers love and support.

Sandra Marquardsen

Sandra founded DiningSix with a handful of friends back in 2009, when they established a cafe and nightclub in Denmark. It was only supposed to be just a great way of working, while they were studying, but now they company has 25 restaurants in Denmark and Norway under various brands such as KöD; Basso, Keyser, Cinco and Feed. Sandra finished law school and worked for 4 years as a lawyer, before joining the company fulltime in 2018 as CFO.

In 2022 Sandra took the role as Group CEO. Sandra focusses on running a compliant and modern business, and is fighting for a wider acceptance of the industry as a career in Denmark, where the majority only works in the industry while studying, or as a stepping stone to something else. Alongside this, Sandra sits on the board of the largest organisation for the restaurant business in Denmark. 

Sandy Lucas

Sandy is Director of People & Culture at ISS UK&I. She is accountable for developing the People Strategy and responsible for all dimensions of People & Culture to attract, grow and retain talent. Her ambition is for UK&I to become the employer of choice and belonging within the FM industry. 

Prior to ISS, Sandy was Chief People Officer & Director of Operations at AMS having enjoyed a 23-year career at GE Capital in global, EMEA and in-country positions during cycles of growth, restructuring, acquisition, integration and business transformation, including Lean Six Sigma Leader, Commercial Director and Chief Operating Officer. She is a certified GE Quality Leader.

Sandy has championed diversity and specifically gender balance throughout her career. She has volunteered with CWN (one of the longest established independent organisations for professional women in London) for over 12 years previously being co-chair Membership, President and President Emeritus and is currently co-lead of Inclusion & Belonging. She is on the Advisory team for Black Women in Human Resources, a networking platform established in 2019 to empower, develop and connect black HR professionals.
