Despite the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change describing it as a “code red for humanity” and the profound impact of climate change across a range of social issues already requiring the intervention of charities, philanthropy remains stubbornly reluctant to engage in climate action either through grant making or investments. Although many philanthropists and foundations recognise the urgency and are inclined to take action, there are a variety of perceived barriers which prevent them from doing so.

Join BDB Pitmans and our panellists as we discuss the tensions which exist in climate philanthropy and the ways in which charities and funders can work together to meet the climate challenge, including:

  • the importance of philanthropic support in tackling climate-related issues;
  • the perceived barriers to engagement;
  • the investment argument for fossil fuel divestment and what makes them a “stranded asset”;
  • what your investment managers aren’t telling you;
  • baby steps to implementing a sustainable investment strategy;
  • the politicisation of the climate crisis;
  • grant making strategies that can be employed to help mitigate environmental impact;
  • the environment cross over and intersection with other charitable activities.
