The Eve Appeal
The Eve Appeal is the preferred charity of the Danish-UK Association.
The Eve Appeal has always had a strong link with the Danish-UK Association. The charity was born out of a collaboration with between Peter Vagn-Jensen and Professor Ian Jacobs, two men who have both been deeply affected by gynaecological cancers in their lives. Peter’s wife Lone, was the first Managing Director of the Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce.
When Peter’s wife, Lone, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1996, the couple resolved to tackle the disease head-on and set up The Eve Appeal. Sadly, even the best treatments were ultimately unable to save Lone’s life.
The Eve Appeal is the only UK national charity raising awareness and funding research in the five gynaecological cancers – ovarian, womb, cervical, vaginal and vulval. We were set up to save women’s lives by funding ground-breaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these women-only cancers.
We fund pioneering blue skies research aiming to change women’s lives for the better.
FORECEE (4C), one of the latest research programmes we are fundraising for, aims to predict the risk of women developing any of the four women-specific cancers (womb, ovarian, cervical and breast). This research is revolutionary and has the potential to save significantly more women’s lives.
The world-leading research that we fund is ambitious and challenging but our vision is simple: A future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.
